Spurs to take sting out of Hornets?
Arsenal’s title aspirations were derailed when they suffered a real Boxing Day horror show, losing 4-0 to Southampton at St Mary’s. The bookmakers seem to think that the Gunners will get back on track against the Cherries and have pencilled them in with the highest goal expectancy for this game round.
Arsenal’s North London neighbours Spurs haven’t won the league since 1961 but they now sit just 6 points off the pace. None of the sides at the top have looked convincing and Tottenham might not get many better chances than this to secure that elusive title. Their aggressive approach sees them topping the table for most fouls committed per game according to WhoScored, collecting 39 yellow cards in the process and they are also averaging more shots on target away from home than all of their adversaries. However, Watford have been punching above their weight all season, buoyed by the impressive form of Odion Ighalo and it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise in the world if there was a sting in the tail here.
It’s almost unthinkable to imagine that 6th placed Manchester United would be taking on 15th placed Chelsea at this stage of the season but that’s the way it is, however, it remains to be seen whether or not Louis van Gaal will still be in the dugout for the home side when kick-off comes around. Elsewhere, Leicester City versus Manchester City on Tuesday evening might provide another clue as to whether the Foxes are genuine title contenders or not and this fixture promises to see an abundance of goals.
